Robert Leland “Lee” Beam

June 13, 1934 ~ May 30, 2024

Robert Leland Beam, affectionately known as “Lee,” was born on June 13, 1934 in Modesto, California to Harold and Dorothy Beam. Lee was the oldest of four siblings and graduated from Modesto High School in 1953. Lee married his high school sweetheart, Marlene, in August of 1953 who preceded him in death in 2022. Lee and Marlene were a dynamic duo sharing 69 years of marriage, decades of service to the church, their neighborhood, and members of their community.

Lee began working at a young age, selling bubble gum to his classmates, washing cars, odd jobs and cashiering at the local corner store. He was dedicated to hard work and serving those he loved. Whether you were family, fellow church members, or a customer Lee served you with a warm-hearted smile and big hug. Lee retired from Save Mart after 35 years of management and opening stores in the valley and foothills. He loved to spend time fishing, hiking, traveling, and listening to music. His love for music started at a young age – he sang in the high school choir and he sang into retirement in a barbershop quartet. Lee loved to attend jazz music festivals annually and find new music and musicians on YouTube to enjoy. As Lee would say “holy mackerel kingfish, stay safe!”

Lee is survived by two of his siblings Dale Beam and Eileen “Beam” Ingraham, his daughter Dawn Beam (Michael Armstrong), his son Brian Beam (Gwynne), granddaughter Erica Beam, grandson Charlie Armstrong (Lindsey), grandson Tom Armstrong, and great-granddaughters Aubrey Tripp and Chloe Tripp.

A graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park on Thursday, June 13th, 2024 at 10 am.
