Roy Andrew Hedstrom was born on March 8th, 1932, and grew up on a dairy farm in Turlock. The farm was on Hedstrom Rd., named in honor of his great uncle Gus. He attended Turlock High School, where he graduated in 1950. He participated in various sports, including being a part of the championship football team in ’48-’49. After high school, Roy graduated from San Jose State and proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He shared a loving marriage with Donna Dill Hedstrom for 68 wonderful years. Together they raised two sons, Stewart and Scott, and were blessed with 2 granddaughters and 5 great grandchildren. Roy dedicated 33 years of his career as a claims specialist for Farmers Insurance. He took pride in serving as the past commander of the American Legion Post 88 and held the role of service officer for many years. In 2022, he was honored to be selected as the Grand Marshal for the July 4th Parade.
Roy is survived by his wife Donna; his son Scott Hedstrom of Turlock; grandchildren Stephanie Hedstrom, Alli Hedstrom Robles and grandson in law Mario Robles; great grandchildren Levi Hedstrom, Vada Hedstrom, Mace Robles, Micah Robles and Cade Both and his siblings Marvel Hedstrom Johnson of Turlock, Ray Hedstrom of Fresno, and Sandra Hedstrom Taylor of Orange County.
He is preceded by his son Stewart Hedstrom, his brother Robert Hedstrom, and his parents Roy and Carrie Hedstrom.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Turlock Historical Society, New Life Christian Center or the charity of the donor’s choosing.
Visitation will be held at Allen Mortuary on Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 5:00-7:00p.m. Graveside services will be at Turlock Memorial Park on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 11:00a.m.
