Roy Fowler August 10, 1932 - June 27, 2023

Roy Fowler went home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2023, at Covenant Living Community of Turlock.

Roy was born August 10, 1932, to Vivian and Rose Mary Fowler in Goff, Kansas. He joined older brother Richard. The family left Kansas for California in 1937 on the steam train; eventually settling in Fresno County.

Roy attended schools in Fresno and Clovis, California, graduating from Clovis High School in 1950. After working for a year, he attended North Park College, achieving an Associate of Arts degree. He returned to Fresno, graduating from Fresno State College with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1955. The next day he married the love of his life, Dolores Carlson. In the fall he returned to Chicago to attend North Park Seminary. While he was there, he realized his lifelong call to be a teacher and coach, beginning his teaching career at North Park Academy. Roy returned to Fresno and began a 33-year career as a teacher and a coach, teaching at Kerman, Clovis and Mt. Diablo High Schools.

Sports were an important part of Roy’s life. Football and track were his sports in high school and college. While coaching in Clovis, to support his high school swim team, he started a youth swim team. Family life during summer in those years focused on the team as all the kids swam and Dolores helped wherever she was needed. Friday night football was another family focus for many years. Roy had a heart for people and would often take someone under his wing. After his retirement he spent his time volunteering at church with ministry to men and supporting Dolores in her ministry pursuits.

Roy is survived by his children, Julie (Ron) Persson, John (Laura), James, and Jeff, sisters-in-law Lorraine Hedstrom and Vernes Fowler, 11 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores, his parents, his brother Richard, brother-in-law Lowell, and his daughter-in law Nancy Fowler.

Peace be to his memory.
