Sylvia was the youngest child born to Patrick and Mary Tobin of Turlock, CA. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Turlock High School in 1972. She went to work at Emanuel Medical Center (EMC) as a ward clerk. After starting a family and spending many years as a homemaker, she returned to school and earned her Pharmacy Technician’s license and went back to EMC working in their pharmacy until medically retired.
Sylvia was very involved with the women’s Catholic nonprofit organization, Young Ladies Institute at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was the institute’s treasurer for 8 years and First Vice President this year. Sylvia was an incredibly kind, loving, funny, creative woman. She put her love and talent for doing crafts to good use for numerous Y.L.I. events.
Sylvia was a loving wife to her husband Ken Bergman, recently celebrating their 42 year of marriage. She was an incredible mother of two children, Kevin Bergman and Elsa Bergman; in April of this year she proudly welcomed her daughter-in-law Katie into the family. At the same time officially becoming Granny to a vivacious 6 year old granddaughter who she loves very much! Sylvia was a loving sister to John Tobin, Mary Patricia Smith, Katherin Daubenberger and Dorothy Sword; she was a wonderful friend, and a caring and beautiful human being. She had an infectious laugh and a silly sense of humor! Sylvia will be intensely missed by all those whose lives she touched. Sylvia had on-going treatment with her hematologist Dr. Jason Gotlib at Stanford Cancer Center.
