Virgalee Brooks passed away at home on October 2, 2024 in Pine Grove, California two days before her birthday, surrounded by her family.
She was born on October 4, 1938 in Kansas and was the daughter of Herman and Virginia Dirks. The family moved to Turlock, California when she was 17 years old.
She had many trials in her life including surviving polio, but pulled through and her faith in the Lord never wavered.
She was a reverend and attended many churches in her lifetime with the latest at Mount Zion in Pine Grove. Her calling was ministering at women’s prisons. She was very involved with follow up ministry. She published a book “Letters from Prison” about the impact she had on prior inmates’ lives.
Her hobby was photography. Her favorite places were Yosemite National Park and Daffodil Hill in the Spring and Fall.
She is survived by two sons Brian and Stephen Brooks of Pinegrove, California; and one daughter Teresa Wade of Pioneer, California; three grandchildren Stephen Brooks Jr., Holly Wade, and Jennifer Burcham; brothers Ralph (Virginia) Dirks of Kentucky, Mark Dirks of California, and Elwood (Ruth) Dirks; sisters Eloise Rubio of California, Nancy Mize of Montana, and LaVonne (Ted) Bauer of Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by parents, brothers Victor and Douglas Dirks, and sister Velda Ratzlaff.
A Graveside Service will be held at Winton Cemetery on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 1:00pm.
