Born 8-31-1943 in Truckee California, Wanda was a hardworking wife and loving mother. She raised five children while working in restaurants, owning the Kitchen in Jamestown, doing eldercare, and working in mini-marts. After working all day she would cook dinner for her family, her signature dishes were fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy as well as biscuits and gravy…..its been said her fried chicken puts the Colonels to shame. In later years she even did special needs childcare for two doctors. Often working two or three jobs, she said wasn’t always for the pay, but for the people got to see and meet while working.
Over the years, she baked for family, friends and supported school bake sales for school fundraisers. She always made time to take them to their activities or ensure they had a way to get there. No mater where she lived, she made it her own, decorating and adding her signature color yellow. She was proud to take care of her home and always welcomed family and friends into her cheerful abode.
Wanda always laughed and said she was low maintenance but always had her hair styled and nails manicured whether in a salon or doing them herself. She loved bingo, trips to Reno, as well as dancing at the Rawhide, and road trips on a Harley. In later years Wanda attended church, played Bingo with friends, did some volunteer accounting and secretarial work, as well numerous other activities including dining out in her favorite restaurants.
Wanda loved to socialize and having company over to talk about good times, and memories old and new….cooking breakfast for her family on weekends with her ever-present cup of coffee and and her country music turned up loud… Here’s to you Wanda the motorcycle Mama…you were loved and you will be missed.
